HUES OF LIFE

--> HUES OF LIFE One fine noon, I was asked to define Of all the colours, I had seen till my prime Which one hue, was I most akin to Was it red, pink or green; was it ochre or blue? The confab and query seemed a bit infantile But I paused and pondered, t hen answered with a smile. When my muscles were stronger and mind more agile I could climb every tree and run a fast mile Trudge through deserts and swim in deep seas   Fly like a butterfly and sting like a bee The colour of my life was a healthy bright pink And   from that fountain of youth  I  thought,  I'd forever drink. But the fountain ran dry and life went awry Problems came knocking, friends said goodbye Joy was elusive and played hide n seek Gloom all pervasive, jobs mostly bleak The sun still rose daily, but never for me So pink turned to blue and life looked dreary. I made peace with blue and embraced my new life But fate foiled my plans and struc

THOSE HALCYON DAYS As I sit in my garden today And see a n array  Of blooming flowers Beautifully aligned and u ntouched Familiar b ut unfriendly Sway with the passing breeze And gently tease My senses   As if to say  Hey! You once knew me better O lady in the sweater What happened to you Why did you choose to eschew The bond we once knew, s o well Hell! The child in me wants to leap out Leap out and pluck them Smell and scatter them Without worry or care In spite of mom’s hollering Or the gardener’s livid stare O where a re those halcyon days I ask my adult self Ruminating in the chair! As I lie in my bedroom today And stare At the bare walls That surround me Do they protect or hound me I ask These structures of ivory white That shimmer blue in the moonlight And smite my senses   As if to say Hey! You once knew me better O lady in those fetters What happened to you Why did you choose to eschew The bond
