MY LIFE LINES
MY LIFE LINES
Go ahead
change the nameplate outside
the furniture, all the curtains
or the people who will now reside
and call this "their" home
a privilege, that I loan
a privilege, that is only mine to give
for no matter who will live
here, in this home
a place where I've grown
a place that will always house
all of my first memories
crisp, even if now wafer thin
and carved, somewhere therein
on a moulded doorframe
they do seem all the same I know
but look closely
for next to a solid teak door
it's creak hard to ignore
are some fine lines
throbbing in the womb of time
that I leave behind
my stamp
my imprints
my beautiful height markings
each more precious as I grew
though they may seem nothing to you
will always live on
here
in my cherished first abode
that no nameplate
no resident
or coat of paint
can ever erode
so,
go ahead!
